Strengthening the Somali Women Journalists Network and Leadership Platform

Three women seated together at a conference table, papers and notes in front of them

Maandeeq Development Hub (MDH) implemented this initiative to strengthen the institutional capacity, coordination, and leadership of women journalists in Banadir. The project began with an assessment of existing women journalists’ associations to identify their operational priorities, capacity gaps, and institutional needs.

Based on the findings, MDH supported the development of a sustainable network structure, including a networking strategy, membership framework, and governance guidelines. The project also facilitated national forums and peer-learning exchanges to strengthen collaboration, professional networking, shared learning, and collective leadership among women journalists.

The initiative concluded with practical policy recommendations aimed at increasing women’s participation, representation, and leadership within Somalia’s media sector.
